Deformity Correction

Limb deformities can lead to difficulties with everyday life. These deformities may be a result of fractures that have not healed, or have healed in an incorrect position. Other times, these deformities develop due to infections in bone, or following developmental abnormalities of growth regions (e.g. Blount’s Disease) or the bones themselves (e.g. Osteogenesis Imperfecta).

Deformity correction can range from one simple to multiple complex surgeries depending on the cause and degree of deformity in the bones, joints and muscles/soft tissues. Associated conditions such as a leg length discrepancy or infection in the bone may need to be treated at the same time. Treatment to correct your deformity may be with an external fixator frame, or with an internal device such as a plate and screws, or a rod inside the bone. Your surgeon will discuss the treatment options suitable for you at the time of your consult.
